In the novel the Freman were a very tall chestnut color skinned people. Tuareg Berbers would be a more true life example of the Freman.

I can almost swear that I read in one of the books where they referenced to earth as something along the lines of atomicTerra or nukedterra. It was a name which heavily implied that Earth had been destroyed by atomics. I haven"t read any books by Brian so it"s not from his canon. 0:52 - I love how the Feyd Rauta laughs at this ridicilous line.
I always wondered how life was in the Earth"s Golden Age in the Dune Universe, I assume that the Earth fell to the thinking machines and then get exterminated making it a waste land. Emperor in Dune: Stands around scowling or looking perplexed. Usually both. Emperor in Star Wars: Just is. Dun le palestel. Makes sense. We"ve lost quite a bit of knowledge of older civilizations over just couple thousand years. Can only imagine it would get worst over 20k years on top spreading to other planets. This movie certainly had its faults, but the last scene was well executed. Iliked the credit sequence too. Toto"s music really helped give it atmoshpere. This is just my opinion but I believe that Frank Herbert wanted to not have to deal with the Earth as a setting for the story so moving it off Earth 20k in the future and making the planet a legend, a myth kept alive by the very educated and high brow in the society of Dune so that he didn"t have to deal with what happened to it, and why we"ve never really ever gone back or even set a part of the Dune-verse in it.
My hope was basically to re-invigorate this glorious scene, with my own style and flair. My deepest wish is to represent the intentions in David Lynch"s heart and soul for this film. Dunaj dudlay. The movie is such a legend. I love it. I applaud your ending. The book ending was anticlimactic but in a film it would have been far worse. The film needed to end with a miracle to show that he was the messiah. The original DeLaurentis ending was good but I think your cut is the better since it ties up the loose ends. People think that the whole of Arrakis is inundated with the storm but my read is that Paul caused the storm on the citadel so as to shower his faithful with that most precious of gifts. Huge fan of the books and Im looking forward to this directors version.

I loved David Lynches Dune! Love it so much? But then again, I never read the books. Too short of an attention span for those books. Wait, What was I writing? Heh heh heh. When I first saw dune as a kid in the late 80"s my immediate reaction was why is Captain Picard in a sand movie with a young male porn star? I was always fascinated by it"s strange world and dark tone. The image of the evacuees barely escaping doom when the giant worm open it"s mouth to swallow them whole will always burned into my memory. I never read the books before seeing the movie but I remember being only mildly interested and entertained up until THIS duel. This made me sit up and really pay attention! The battle appeared realistic if all to brief. Didn"t Sho Kosugi choreograph.
According to Dune butchers, Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson. the Earth was destroyed by atomic weapons in the prequels.
